The Best Nars Base for Your Skin Type

I’ve been a fan of Nars makeup for years and wait with bated breath every time they come out with a new release. Not surprisingly, I’ve tried all of their foundations and tinted moisturizers, and occasionally mourn over the discontinuation of their Sheer Matte foundation. Nars has one of the best selection of shades that I’ve seen. Another reason I love Nars? They’re cruelty-free. ShiSeido, the brand that owns Nars, does test on animals but Nars itself does not because the brand is not sold in mainland China, where testing is mandatory for products from other countries. I really hope Nars will continue to be a cruelty-free company.

All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation-Best for: Normal to Oily

All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation replaced Sheer Matte. It is super pigmented so a little bit of product provides full coverage. It’s marketed for all skin types but I suspect those with drier skin might find it too drying and that it accentuates dry areas. Like Sheer Glow, ADLWF is scent free. Unlike Sheer Glow, this stuff comes with a pump for easy, clean and sanitary dispensing. I wear All Day Luminous in Gobi.

Sheer Glow Foundation-Best for: Normal to Dry

Sheer Glow is the product that started my love affair with Nars and probably my favorite foundation ever. Sheer Glow provides sheer to medium coverage and light moisture. As much as I love makeup I hate feeling like I have a lot on and Sheer Glow gives me uniform coverage without feeling like a mask; it’s the best of both worlds. I either apply it with a sponge or fingers. If I’m having a day when I need some extra help I’ll bust out concealer. Right now I’m using Nars Radiant Creamy concealer in Chantilly. A pump isn’t included when you buy Sheer Glow in Toronto but I’ve purchased mine from the Nordstrom site. Hopefully when Nordstrom stores open this fall in Toronto they’ll carry the pumps. I wear Sheer Glow I Gobi but sometimes Mont Blance or even Siberia if it’s winter.Sheer Glow shades blend really well together which is great for tweaking to get the perfect shade.

Velvet Matte Skin Tint-Best For: Oily to Normal skin types.

Velvet Matte Skin Tint does have a matte finish but is a tad moisturizing so may not be mattifying enough for those who aim to really control oil and shine. It’s a good option if your skin leans toward the oilier side and you want coverage that doesn’t give you that heavier look some matte bases leave or, if you generally have normal to dry skin but go through oily periods (PMS for me). All-in-all, I like this tinted moisturizer.

Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer-Best For: Drier skin types

I find that the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer gives the skin a generous dose of moisture with good coverage if you have dry skin, this could be perfect for you. It’s perfect if you want sheer coverage and moisture. Like Velvet Matte Skin Tint, Pure Radiant comes in a good number of shades, especially for tinted moisturizers.
