Dry Winter Skin Be Gone!

At the end of winter, a lot of us are left dealing with rough and itchy skin, a result of blasting indoor heat and skipping out on moisturizing after those wonderfully steamy but oh-so-not-the-best-for-the-skin showers. It’s also the time where we start anticipating warmer weather and may want to prepare our skin to make its reintroduction into society.

I wanted a body scrub and since I’m currently obsessed with DIY skincare I opted to make my own

What You’ll Need:

  • Apricot Shell Exfoliant-found at most health food stores (I got mine at Herbs & Nutrition at Bathurst and Bloor).
  • A Carrier Oil. Sweet Almond Oil is a good option because it’s one of the more affordable oils, which you may want to consider for body DIYs that are usually made in larger quantities.
  • A Plastic Bottle with a removable lid. Plastic is generally the best choice for in-shower products in case they drop. Ouch!

wpid-img_20150330_173454.jpgI like to mix mine with carrier oil(s) so I’m also getting a punch of moisture however, mixing with water or aloe gel is a good idea if you don’t want any oily residue at the bottom of your tub.

For a pick-me-up add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the body scrub. Oils like orange, rosemary, or peppermint will leave you feeling fresh and revitalized while a few drops of lavender added to your scrub will help you unwind after a long day or calm your nerves for the day ahead.

NOTE: Remember this scrub recipe is for the body, not face. I generally don’t recommend using essential oils on facial skin.
