Sunscreen is hands down an indispensable product when it comes to skin health. It protects skin from signs of premature aging such as spots, lines, and overall appearance. More importantly, sunscreen, along with other sun safety measures like hats and sunglasses, prevents different forms of skin cancer. When looking for a sunscreen you want to make sure the product is broad spectrum meaning it provides both UVA (photo aging) and UVB (burning) protection. When picking out sunscreen look for ingredients known to provide good protection such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
I have a collection of mineral based sunscreens and one of my faves is Elta MDs UV Physical SPF 41. I used one of the brands chemical/physical blends earlier but was super excited to try their completely physical one. I prefer physical sunscreens because they never cause any type of irritation to my skin or eyes even after regular use. Elta MD describes this sunscreen as;
For oil-free sun protection with just a touch of color, our lightly tinted UV Physical is a healthy choice. This chemical-free natural mineral sunscreen has antioxidants to neutralize free radicals. Water-resistant UV Physical withstands water, humidity and perspiration.
It contain 9% zinc oxide and 7% titanium dioxide which may not be enough protection for say a very fair person at the beach but for day-to-day wear it’s sufficient. It has a light tint which serves more to neutralize any white cast the mineral may leave on the skin. Elta MDs UV physical feels and applies quite nicely on the skin and I can easily apply my foundations over it. It’s also fragrance-free, oil-free, paraben-free, sensitivity-free, chemical-free and noncomedogenic and is touted to be suitable for even super sensitive skin. I have already repurchased and am planning on doing so again-and I’m a sunscreen snob!
