Double Wear Foundation Is A Classic That I Love So I Had Mixed Feelings About A New Version

Oh Double Wear Foundation. You are a true classic. Loved by generations. How can another match your legacy?! When I heard about the launch of Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Foundation  I had mixed feelings. On one hand I was intrigued and wanted to see how they tweaked the original. On the other, I thought “why mess with a good thing?”  Ultimately I decided to try it out and I’m so happy I did.

Double Wear Nude is not the first reinterpretation of the original. Double Wear Light  is a considerably lighter textured version. Despite this it still has amazing staying power and is best for those with oily skin or who sweat a lot throughout their day. But back to Double Wear Nude. At first I classified it as a foundation somewhere between the original and light versions but that’s not accurate.  It’s way more than just a tweaking of the texture. DW Nude is the most well-rounded of the three formulas, especially for an everyday makeup. Let me explain.

Double Wear Nude Is A Really Good Foundation With Skin Loving Ingredients

Double Wear Nude contains SPF 30 plus skin-loving ingredients like vitamin e, lecithin, sodium hyaluronate, fruit extracts and more. My thinking is, if I’m going to be wearing a product often it may as well have additional skin benefits. I would’t ditch your skincare routine but it’s good to know this foundation is doing a bit more than covering up.

While the original and light versions have matte finishes, Nude has a natural satin finish that is bordering on dewy. To be clear, this is still a long-wearing foundation that stays in place for me all day. I may have to touch up slightly if I’m sweating more than usual.  Still, if you have very oily skin you may not find that Nude is matte enough.

Estee Lauder says:

Real-skin flawless. Real protection. 24-hour staying power.

Waterlight. This fluid, long-wear makeup feels like you have nothing on. Moves comfortably with your skin. Looks fresh, natural, healthy, even-toned.

With SPF 30 and anti-oxidants, it’s your invisible defense against environmental damage from UV rays and pollution.

Instantly and continuously hydrates with a moisture complex of red fruit extracts, including watermelon, lychee seed and apple.

Um, Where Are The Rest Of The Shades?!

One downfall of the Double Wear Nude collection is the range of shades, or lack thereof. You’ll notice online and at Estee Lauder counters that the shade range offering is nowhere near that of the original formula. Maybe they want to see how the new formula fairs in the market first? But so many people can’t even try it out in the first place because their shade isn’t available.  It includes very fair and very dark shades but not as wide a variety as the original offers. It’s only one downfall to this foundation but it’s a major one.
